Licence Plate Expiry Sticker

As we all know, licence plate stickers are now free and drivers only have to register online in order to renew them. For our Municipality, we used licence plate stickers to help us determine whether or not a vehicle was derelict, based on the validity of the expiry sticker. Now, with there being no initiative really for drivers to renew their stickers, I am wondering what other Municipalities are doing about this? Does anyone else face the same problem and if so, what solutions are you looking at?

War Veterans – Free parking – Municipalities

We have received an inquiry about providing free parking to war veterans in our downtown. Does your municipality provide free parking to War Veterans and if so, what are the particulars of the program? If you have reviewed this program and decided against it, please provide any reasons why the program was not accepted and/or discontinued.

Thanks

Free Parking during Covid

Hi All,

Like many Universities when COVID originally shut down our city in March 2020, McGill University suspended paid parking since only essential services (electrical and mechanical trades) were on site. The decision to restart parking came at the end of August and it has taken weeks to set up permits, passes etc for paid parking to begin September 27. Montreal is now entering a second wave and again people are being encouraged to work from home. The University is again considering suspending parking fees. Is anyone else suspending parking for a second wave or is it under consideration?

Approach to parking rules/restrictions and curbside management during COVID-19

City of Halifax Councillors are eager to learn what other jurisdictions are doing relative to curbside management and parking practices during this unprecedented period of time. If you are developing a plan, or have one already in, please would you be willing to share your experiences?

Contract Parameters and Enforcement for Street Cleaning & Snow Removal

We are curious how other municipalities handle enforcement for street cleaning/snow removal, and the expectations of the tow trucks/drivers during these times.

  • Do you ticket all vehicles parked in contravention of the signage?
  • Do you tow all vehicles, or just clean around them (or both)?
  • What are some of the parameters of the contract with the towing company?
  • Do they get paid per tow? per day? both?
  • What are your charge out rates and policies
  • What other ways do you charge for the tows? (is it through the fine of the ticket, but if a ticket isn’t issued, how do you recoup those costs?)

Thanks in advance everyone!

Canada Post Community Mailboxes – Safety Concerns

I am looking for how other Canadian Municipalities resolve concerns on Community Mail Boxes. Do you treat them individually if complaints arise on parking or safety concerns for all users? or are they covered in a Traffic Bylaw similar to fire hydrants?

Your responses would be appreciated…

Uber and Lyft and relevant parking impacts

Looking for thoughts from other cities as we consider introducing Uber and Lyft. Any changes to policies, impacts to parking supply and demand

and anything else that might be relevant.

Thank you in advance!

Equipment RFPs

I’m volunteering on a local Hospital committee that’s looking to put together an RFP for parking equipment. Would any of you have a template/sample they could use as a guideline for this specific type of RFP?

120 Volt Charging of Electric Vehicles

I have had a patron ask me what my plans are for facilitating 120 charging for her electric vehicle as it is a simple 120 plug.

What are other institutions doing? I am sure this request will become more and more common.

She said she can use out standard block heater plug ins but is it my obligation to turn those on for people to charge their cars?

Thoughts?
